Three Arguments for unaccompanied violoncello was written during the spring of 1993 through a commission from Paul Tobias and premiered by Mr. Tobias at the Leonard Rose Cello Competition, July 23, 1993. The general character of each movement is as follows: Argument 1: spontaneous, quixotic, introverted/extroverted; Argument 2: deeply sad and disturbed; Argument 3: joyful, playful, outrageous.
